Battery Engineer - Formation (21700 Cell Specialist)

Summary

The Battery Engineer - Formation will be responsible for tasks and skills such as (non-exhaustive):

Formation Process Development: Lead the development and optimization of formation processes for 21700 cylindrical cells, focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Equipment Selection and Integration: Collaborate with equipment vendors to select, procure, and integrate formation equipment suitable for 21700 cell manufacturing, including ASRS systems and other automation technologies.

Process Optimization: Continuously improve formation processes through data analysis, experimentation, and process refinement to enhance battery performance and reliability.

Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality control measures to monitor and maintain consistent formation quality standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to formation processes, equipment, and materials, working closely with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of formation process parameters, equipment settings, and experimental results, and prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Training and Knowledge Transfer: Provide training and guidance to production staff on proper formation techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the formation team.

Research and Innovation: Stay updated on the latest advancements in battery technology, formation processes, and industry best practices, and explore new methodologies and technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of formation processes.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in battery formation processes, with specific expertise in 21700 cylindrical cells.

• Strong understanding of electrochemistry, cell assembly, and battery manufacturing processes.

• Proficiency in data analysis tools and statistical methods for process optimization.

• Hands-on experience with formation equipment, including ASRS systems, formation testers, and other specialized machinery.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.

• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.

• Familiarity with regulatory standards and quality management systems in battery manufacturing.

Preference may be given to candidates residing in the Raleigh-Durham area.

Work Environment

Work will predominately be in an office or work-from-home environment. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, steel toe shoes, lab coat, and in the plant, a hard hat when working in the plant. Strict adherence to corporate and/or plant policies, rules and regulations in these areas is required. Compensation and Benefits

• $90,000-100,000 depending on experience
