Lead Quality Engineer

Summary

Forge Nano Inc. is a fast-growing materials company with a focus on manufacturing nano-scale coatings across a wide range of markets including Li-Ion Batteries. Forge Nano is seeking a Lead Quality Engineer to join their Energy Storage Design and Manufacturing Team. This position will focus on the cathode process day to day operation of Forge Nano’s 1 MWh Battery Prototyping Line.

The Lead Quality Engineer should be prepared to work in a fast-paced development and prototyping environment. The role requires a detailed oriented individual who is comfortable working with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, technicians, and engineers. The Lead Quality Engineer will report to the Lead Equipment Engineer.

Experience with Li-ion cell production scale up, Li-ion industrial manufacturing processes are both desirable skillsets, but not requirements.

Skills and Responsibilities

The Lead Quality Engineer may be responsible for tasks and skills such as (non-exhaustive):

  • Lead the Quality efforts of the Battery Prototype Line, including mentoring a junior engineer
  • Perform MSA work including Calibrations, GR&R, Tool-Matching, Limits of Detection
  • Assist Process team with creating, executing, and analyzing DOEs
  • Assist with analyzing production run outputs using t-tests, confidence intervals, etc.
  • Lead root cause analysis on cell data to improve equipment settings/parameters
  • Assist with creating, updating, and controlling SOPs, PFDs, Control Plans, Spec Matrices
  • Qualify current and new suppliers for incoming raw materials
  • Inspect and analyze samples from each process and ensure they remain in specification
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale cell technologies from lab to prototype line
  • Implement safety and quality procedures throughout the prototyping process
  • Build data collection and visualization tools using Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a similarly relevant field
  • 2-4 years of experience in manufacturing and/or development as a Quality or Process Engineer
  • In-depth understanding of statistical analysis including, but not limited to, the following:
    • MSA – GR&R, Tool-Matching, Limits of Detection, Reportable Digits
    • Creating, executing, analyzing DOEs
    • T-tests, confidence intervals, outlier analysis, control charting
  • Experience with root cause analysis – fishbone, 5-whys, 8D
  • Use of Karl Fischer titrator, microscope, ACIR & OCV, calipers, and micrometers
  • Experience creating, updating, and controlling SOPs and PFDs
  • Experience with supplier qualification and incoming/outgoing Quality Inspections
  • Leadership experience in previous roles is required
  • Experience in lithium-ion development or production is preferred
  • Experience with data collection and visualization tools (Power BI, Apps, Automate) is preferred

Work Environment

Work will predominately occur in dry-room and clean-room manufacturing environments. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, steel toe shoes, lab coat. Strict adherence to corporate and/or plant policies, rules and regulations in these areas is required. Travel

Occasional travel may be required for training or collaboration with other facilities, but it is not a regular requirement of the position.

Compensation/Benefits

  • $80,000 - $100,000
